I never said Tonto Dike slept with producer to get a lead role – Queeneth Agbor

Nollywood actress, Queeneth Agbor, has denied reports that popular actress, Tonto Dike slept with a movie producer to get a lead role in a movie.

Agbor, who has become one of the most talked about actresses in the film industry, said her popularity had nothing to do with her roles in movies.

In one of her interviews, the actress famous in her role in a movie, Hooked, was quoted as saying that she did not get a role in a movie that had Tonto Dikeh as lead actress, because she refused to sleep with the producer of the movie.

Several people said the statement implied that Tonto Dikeh slept with the producer of the movie in order to get the lead role.

However, Agbor, who is graduate of Microbiology from the University of Calabar, told Sunday Scoop she never said a thing like that.

According to her, “People always have something to talk about. It does not matter whether you say things that are meant to inspire people or not. People always have a way of making a mountain out of a molehill.

“I refused to respond before now because what was reported was not what I meant. I was only trying to inspire people by saying that Nollywood is not about sex for roles.

“In order to succeed, you need to know your worth and you must also be able to pray ceaselessly. I didn’t say Tonto Dikeh slept with any producer. People will keep talking and that’s their problem.”

On the popular believe that Calabar girls are husband snatchers, the Cross River-born actress said, “I don’t think we (Calabar girls) are husband snatchers, but we know how to keep a man to ourselves.

“Some men don’t like food, so you might not be able to keep him through that, but men like it when a lady is clean and of course good in bed. A Calabar girl is a combination of all.”

She, however, added that she would not mind being ‘tested’ by her man before marriage, stressing that people need to have a feel of what they would have to live with for the rest of their lives.

“You have to know your package, I am not saying just go into it anyhow but just test it. You need to know what you are going into, so you don’t start cheating on your spouse.

“Most marriages that break up are solely because of this issue. So I think it is important for you to know what you are getting into,” she concluded.

I will decline N1 million English film for N200,000 Yoruba film – Oga Bello

When veteran Yoruba actor, Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello speaks, there is little else to do than to listen. With more than 50 years of experience in the movie industry, everything he says must be gold or one may just as well be doing away with wisdom as the man radiates wisdom, knowledge and experience. In a recent chat with Potpourri, the veteran Thespian gave reasons he has not been appearing much in English-speaking films, reiterating that what matters to him most is the preservation of Yoruba culture. He also admitted that he had not been getting many calls for English films even though the Yoruba ones are of more importance to him. “Well, I cannot speak for those people that did not invite me, they have their personal reasons and I don’t want to go into it so much but I am sure if am invited I can express myself and I can interpret roles in English,” he said. ““ I don’t normally participate in English films like Jide Kosoko does but I must confess to you...

2016 US Open: Kerber now No.1 as Serena is knocked out

There will not be a record 188 weeks as No.1 for Serena Williams as the American was – for the second year running – knocked out of the US Open in the semi finals. After battling through in three sets against Simona Halep in the quarters, there was no hiding place against 10th seeded Karolina Pliskova on Thursday night at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 24-year-old Czech continued her hard-hitting, beating Serena 6-2, 7-6 before a largely partisan crowd. And in the second semifinal, Angelique Kerber defeated former No.1, Caroline Wozniacki, 6-4 6-3 to make it to her third Grand Slam final of 2016, having won the Australian Open by defeating Serena Williams. Kerber is now World number one dethroning Serena. In 2015, Serena faltered in this same semi final to Roberta Vinci with a chance to win a calendar Grand Slam. This year she was chasing a new record of being No.1 for 188 weeks having equalled Stefi Graf’s 187 weeks as No.1. She was also chasing a 23rd Grand Slam title tha...

Corruption: China punishes 1.3m officials

Beijing – Chinese President Xi Jinping’s anti-graft drive, which has targeted officials at all levels, has punished more than 1.3 million people in five years, the anti-corruption watchdog said Sunday. The anti-corruption campaign, which Jinping launched shortly after becoming the Communist Party’s leader in 2012, was meant to fell both high-level “tigers” within the party and “flies” in lower bureaucratic ranks. More than 1.3 million officials at the township level or lower have been punished in the past five years, including 648,000 village officials, said the party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. The announcement comes just as the Communist Party is preparing to convene, starting Oct.18 in a congress that takes place once every five years to anoint the party’s top leadership. Jinping is largely expected to remain president for another five years but some reshuffling might take place in the Politburo Standing Committee, the top decision-making body. Critics ...
