Drivers' caution

This article is borne out of an adage that says when a child is trained, he should also give himself more training. Quite a large number of drivers (commercial vehicle drivers, private vehicle drivers, drivers of self-own vehicles and riders) don’t know what driving or Riding really entails. As I often say in my training sessions, driving is a complex task which involves the simultaneous use of several organs of the body in a continuously changing environment to gather, interpret and apply information to ensure effective and safe vehicle control. This goes to say that driving requires physical fitness, mental or emotional fitness, and concentration to ensure safety in any driving environment or situation on the road. It is therefore disheartening to see Drivers drinking alcohol, smoking or using cannabis or hemp in any form before or while driving. They all contain strong psychoactive chemicals which negatively interferes with the brain’s reasoning ability thereby making...

Health benefit one 1 banana a day

Bananas are good for bowel regularity and satiety Adding a banana to your daily diet has an array of benefits in your body. Bananas help you reach your weight-loss goals, keep your bowels healthy, provide nutrients that regulate heart rhythm and have vitamin compounds for eye health. Keep a bunch of bananas on your desk at work and replenish your stock each week. You’ll be more likely to reach for a healthy banana — instead of heading to the vending machine — if you have a bunch sitting in front of you. Weight Loss Finding foods to fit into your weight-loss diet can be challenging, but bananas make a perfect fit. Bananas are naturally sweet and can help curb your sweet tooth if you get that afternoon sugar craving. A 6-inch banana has a minimal 90 calories, about one-fourth of the calories you would get from a chocolate candy bar. Additionally, about half of the fiber content in bananas is soluble. When soluble fiber reaches your digestive tract, it absorbs water...

Stop sit-up exercise

The sit-up is an effective exercise for anyone who wants to train both the abdominals and hip flexors. However, it’s also been shown to impose extremely large compression forces on the discs in your spine. That’s a problem. Bend a wire coat hanger back and forth and, eventually, it will snap. You can’t predict in advance exactly how many bends it will take before it breaks. But you know it’s going to happen sooner or later. Likewise, the discs in your spine can only tolerate so many bending cycles before the accumulated damage manifests itself in the form of pain. Sit-ups may not damage your spine right away. But each set could be moving you one step closer to a crippling back injury that keeps you out of the gym for some time. There are also better abs exercises to choose from. In fact, certain exercises have been shown, in some studies anyway, to work the abdominal muscles harder than sit-ups. These abdominal exercises not only work your stomach muscles but they increase the st...

Nigeria @ 56: Ebunam predicts gloomy future for sports

As Nigeria turns 56 years on Oct. 1, former Rangers International FC of Enugu midfielder, Arthur Ebunam, has predicted a gloomy future for sports. Ebunam said on Wednesday in Enugu while reflecting on sports development that “there is no foreseeable sound future for sports in the country for now’’. He said that at 56 years Nigeria was still living in its past glory as far as sports development and achievements were concerned. Ebunam said that the backwardness in the sports sector was worrisome to veteran professional sportsmen and women. Ebunam, formerly the Special Adviser to Anambra State Government on Sports Development, said that virtually all the sports association had abandoned the torturous path of talent discovery and grooming. “The 2016 Olympic Games clearly exposed our ineptitude to the whole world. “And we ended up with a dismal performance after much noise making both in the local and international media. “In a country of about 170 million people, we went to...

Why we bailed out Women League- Dikko

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) 2nd Vice President and Chairman, League Management Company,(LMC) Shehu Dikko has explained to thenff.com that the N10 million bailout handed to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) was part of a solidarity payment that other Leagues have benefitted from in the recent past. Last week, the LMC came to the rescue of the NWFL with the sum of N10 million, for the NWFL to successfully prosecute the second round of the season. A number of Clubs had ran afoul of the provisions of the NWFL regulations including failing to honour three matches and were subsequently thrown out of the League. However, with the lifeline from the LMC, the NWFL has been able to restore all the expelled Clubs to the League and rescheduled their matches. The NWFL is now in a position to pay indemnities of match officials, taking the responsibility off host teams. The matches resumed at the weekend. “The N10 million is part of solidarity payment from LMC to other Leagues i...

I ran away to avoid being used for rituals by my husband, wife tells court

A housewife, Olayinka Adebayo has told an Akure Customary Court that she deserted her matrimonial home for three years to avoid being used for rituals by her husband, Adeniyi. Olayinka, who made this known when she testified on Wednesday in a divorce petition filed by her husband, told the court that Adeniyi had once asked her to lie on a white apparel and be chanting some words. She recalled that she had to change her place of worship which was Redeemed Christian Church of God to Cherubim and Seraphim, having realised that her life recorded no positive impacts. The respondent said that she also approached a herbalist in the course of overcoming her life challenges. Adeniyi had told the court to dissolve his 15-year-old marriage to Olayinka for alleged desertion for three years, night outing, promiscuity and talkative trait. He noted that he would have forgiven if the respondent had listened and corrected her perceived waywardness. In his judgment, Mr Ayodele Omotola, the...

Atiku to Oyegun: You can’t break rules without consequences

Former Vice President and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Atiku Abubakar Wednesday waded into the altercation between the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and another leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a statement issued by his Media Office in Abuja, the former vice president said the leadership of the party cannot make rules only to discard it while the game is on. He charged “the APC on the promotion of rule of law and due process in the conduct of its affairs noting that they are germane to the unity and stability of the party”. According to him, “it is imperative for the national leadership of the party to live by the rules of internal democracy and respect for democratic consensus”, warning that “you cannot break your own rules without creating problems.” Abubakar spoke in light of the face-off between Messrs Oyegun and Tinubu following the party’s decision to jettison the majority report of its Appeal Comm...
